May's Rare Lunar Event: Flower Moon - Blue Moon

May 2026 will offer skywatchers a rare lunar event with two full moons in one calendar month. The first arrives on May 1 and is known as the Flower Moon. The second rises on May 31 and is called a Blue Moon. The Flower Moon reaches peak illumination during the day in North America, but it will still look full and bright on the evenings before and after May 1.
