Prescott National Forest Announces Fuelwood Collection Opportunities

The Prescott National Forest is announcing two new areas for dead and down fuelwood collection areas available near Prescott, following the completion of two large hand thinning contracts. The 593 acre Butte Creek project is located between Thumb Butte Road and Copper Basin Road, and the 591-acre Chaparral Gulch project is located by Walker Road and Big Bug Mesa Road. These thinning projects involved the cutting of small diameter pines, oaks, and junipers. Larger diameter oak and juniper logs were left out of piles to allow for easier collection.
