It was just 246 years ago today, August 2, 1776, when delegates from the thirteen colonies signed the Declaration of Independence. We celebrate Independence Day on July 4, but this was not when the Declaration was signed, only adopted by the Second Continental Congress. On this date, the official John Hancocks were put to paper. This was not just a simple task, for, in reality, all of those who autographed the document were personally admitting to treason, and in truth, the King had every one of them marked for death.
